Fondation Serge Bruyère

In Québec, food is a passion. However, there are surprisingly few new culinary talents. Daniel Vézina is committed to promoting cooking as profession and developing new talents.

He has been a member of the Serge Bruyère Foundation for six years, and is the Chairman of its Board of Directors for 2010-2011. Serge Bruyère was Daniel's mentor early in his career, and Daniel is committed to paying tribute to his memory and his passion for the business.

A few words about the organization

The Serge Bruyère Foundation puts the spotlight on Québecois gastronomy, locally and elsewhere. They organize benefit events such as Toques et terroir, to raise funds for scholarships. The Concours de la relève Serge Bruyère is a competition for promising young cooks, offering a showcase for their talent.

Both Daniel Vézina and Suzanne Gagnon have been profoundly affected by the tragedy of illness: first, the death of an employee from leukemia, then a young patient whose final wish was to eat at Laurie Raphaël. Since 2003, Ms. Gagnon has been on the Foundation's Board of Directors and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

Laurie Raphaël puts the spotlight on the Foundation’s annual golf tournament by offering its culinary expertise. The entire team takes part in the event. In 2010, the event netted $32 000. Their efforts will make it possible for the Foundation to purchase a building with eight housing units for patients.

A few words about the organization

Since 1996, the Foundation has helped transplant patients and their families by providing services free or at reduced costs, especially travel and housing expenses for patients and their families who travel to Québec for bone marrow transplants.
